“By the Sea” is an up-tempo reggae song with a classic soul feel reminiscent of Toots & The Maytals or Jimmy Cliff’s early catalog. While the music evokes the golden era of Jamaican music, the lyrics speak to modern struggles of maintaining passion in a romantic relationship. Andrae’s lyrics plead to get away with his lover from the hustle and bustle of the big city and the distraction of today’s technology and social media. “I feel it is quite important for couples to take time away from work and their regular routine to reconnect and build stronger relationships, hence the reason I wrote this song”, stated Andrae. In the final moments of the song, the band, which features Ricky Lyan on Bass, Kyle McKenzie on Drums, Steve Antoine on Organ and Dr. Watson on Piano and Guitars, lifts the song to a full gospel shout chorus with stunning harmonies provided by Juliet Nelson.
