CELENA
Celena is a Jamaican born emerging Reggae Artist from Hamilton, Ontario, who is creating waves of excitement with her distinctive and vibrant sound. From toddler years she showed an innate interest in singing and performing.
“Wherever the music was playing, that’s where you would find me. Reggae and Gospel music was always echoing from a little analogue radio in the home I grew up in and I could sing along to every song as if I wrote the lyrics. I was never much of a talker growing up. I used to write poems in a book as a way to express myself and soon I started to add melodies to those poems, transformed them into songs and performed them to an imaginary audience composed of rocks, in my grandmother’s backyard”.
Her confidence grew as she developed her craft from performing at community events, school programs and of course the church, the backbone of her upbringing.
Celena made a conscious decision in 2019 to pursue her childhood dreams in becoming a Recording Artist and started her musical journey as an independent artist. She pushes boundaries in her music and captivates audiences with her eloquence and passion. From the release of her EP I’mpossible in 2022, Celena received her first Juno nomination in 2023 for Reggae Recording of the year with the single “Like a Star”; a track that encourages authenticity and staying true to oneself despite the pressures from society to conform. Celena was also nominated for 3 categories at the Reggae North Music Awards Inaugural Ceremony.
“I must say my biggest inspiration musically is Bob Marley. His songs always deliver a message and make you feel good. I too also aim to create music that inspire, innovate and motivate”.
Celena’s most recent release “Bless Me” was meticulously produced by Shakim, who took inspiration from the rhythm of the classic Bob Marley hit “Jammin”. This is a reflective song that celebrates the highs and lows in life and the importance of taking time to find inner peace.
Celena continues to pursue her goals tirelessly and maintain her authenticity by staying true to her craft. Her journey is not solely about making great music but also to inspire and encourage believing in oneself and making dreams come through.
